A collection of inhalers and asthma therapies

The London Inhalatorium

In 1936 The London Inhalatorium published, “Medicated Inhalation Therapy Hand Book”. The London Inhalatorium was located in Grosvenor Place and afforded a comfortable treatment room (see picture) to those being treated. The book described the use of the Apneu (Spiess Drager) nebulising apparatus for the delivery of adrenalin, menthol, eucalyptus, turpentine and a number of other agents. The apparatus was powered by a cylinder of compressed oxygen regulated to a flow of 5 - 7 litres per minute.  Ironically, the inhalation of insulin was also offered - today this is a very active area of drug delivery research.
