A collection of inhalers and asthma therapies

Eclectic Inhaler

This splendid ceramic inhaler is an ‘Eclectic inhaler’ and is described in the book entitled ‘The Laryngoscope’ (1871 London) written by the famous physician Morell Mackenzie. He, in fact, refers to it as ‘my Eclectic inhaler’ and goes into great detail of its working (see extract below), so he may well have been the inventor. The photograph shows the inhaler (with mouthpiece) and bears the names of Bullock & Reynolds (a London pharmacy) and says manufactured by S.Maw Son & Thompson, which dates it to 1870 - 1900.
