The treatment of croup and similar conditions in the 19th and 20th centuries involved the use of humidifying the bedroom with a steaming kettle. The photos show an early version by Benham and Proud (43cm tall) dating from c1860 and an early 20th century model and the illustration from Cassel’s Family Physician 1899 shows another version.
