This attractively mottled version of the Maw’s inhaler was used for inhaling infusions.

This inhaler is described in medical texts describing sick room appliances.

This design of inhaler was reported in 1865 by the Lancet as a new invention.

The 1869 Maw’s catalogue shows an inhaler identical to this.

The first Nelson’s inhaler  carried the S. Maw & Son name. In 1870 Maw’s became known as S. Maw, Son & Thompson until around 1900 when it became known as S.Maw, Son & Sons.

The advert is from Chemist and Druggist 1889.
