The Arica culture comes from the coastal regions of northern Chile and Southern Peru. This is an inhaler that is understood to date from c1500 a.d. Inhalers of this type would have been used to inhale fumes of tobacco-like substances. The mixture was prepared on the decorated wooden receptacle and inhaled through the hollow wooden mouthpiece. The decorative stones are malachite.
