FAQs
Why have you created this site?
Inhalatorium was first created in 2003. There are very few focused, authoritative sources for information relating to the history of inhalation therapy – this is an attempt to bring relevant information together in a cohesive manner. It is frequently overlooked how common inhalation therapy was in Victorian times.
How can I obtain copies of images?
Many of the images are available for download. There is a small service charge that helps to pay for this facility.
How do I submit material for inclusion?
Please use the contact link to submit material or suggestions. Images that are not part of my personal collection will be acknowledged.
How often will the information be updated?
The collection is expanding and the recent re-formatting of the website has facilitated the ease of update, but there are no set dates for revision.
Is this the total extent of the collection?
No. There are many further books and items, some of which will be included as time permits.
Why are there no modern inhalers?
It is not the objective of this website to comment on current therapy or inhalation devices.
Can you provide a valuation?
It is not always easy to comment on an item’s value, it can depend on condition, completeness, scarcity and other factors. Valuation is not my expertise, but I am happy to share my experience.
Why are you interested in old inhalation devices?
Most of my working life has been in the area of respiratory medical devices. I have been involved in inventing diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. Understanding the inventions of the past is a great help in thinking about future solutions. Much of my effort recently has been devoted towards creating tools that enable patients to use their inhalers correctly – sadly too many patients have not been correctly educated on good inhaler technique.
Have you written any articles on inhaler history?
Yes, I have written articles, a textbook chapter and made numerous presentations to medical and pharmaceutical audiences. In addition to inhaler history some of the research I have been involved with is also published.
