The Munyon’s inhaler shown here, together with the figure from the 1899 patent, is almost complete, simply missing the fine mouthpiece tube and a small test tube. The green glass is embossed with the words, “Munyon’s inhaler cures colds, catarrh and all throat & lung diseases” it also has the words, “patented” and “fill to the line” on the back. The UK patent was published in 1899 in the name of James Monroe Munyon. It was designed to enable the in-situ mixing of two separate volatile liquids. In addition to the glass inhaler a bakelite inhaler was also developed under the Munyon’s name. The bakelite inhaler shown here had a wad of impregnated cotton wool inside and air was drawn in through a short air inlet and out through the mouthpiece. The advert from Chemist & Druggist is dated 1899.
