The Chicago Pipe Medicator inhaler opens into two parts; a lower part comprising the mouthpiece and resembling a pipe, and an upper part with two long nasal tubes. In the absence of written instructions we may speculate that it may have been used to deliver menthol or similar vapours to the nose and/or mouth. It may even have used exhalation from the mouth to blow vapours into the nose. It was cast in metal. A faint mark on the reverse suggests it may have been patented in 1892.
